Chronic Disease Management

Acupuncture Physical Medicine

Acupuncture Physical Medicine is a modern American approach to classical meridian acupuncture developed by Dr. Mark Seem. The most common style of acupuncture practiced in North America today is Traditional Chinese Medicine or TCM, which is a modern form of acupuncture developed by the People's Republic of China, consisting of acupuncture and herbal therapies together to treat internal medicine conditions.

In contrast, Acupuncture Physical Medicine, draws from the classical acupuncture and modern western physical medicine to result in a hands-on practice focused on a person's unique holding patterns. The aim is not a Chinese medical diagnosis and treatment based on TCM but rather a physical medicine evaluation and treatment based on a patient's actual lived experience of illness or distress. Patients evaluation and treatment begins on the table, with hands on communication between doctor and patient.

APM is best suited for chronic disorders that often fall outside of mainstream acute medical care approaches, such as chronic pain, fatigue and stress as well as complementing the medical care of illness such as Reflux, IBS, Asthma, PMS and many more. This approach also is of enormous benefit to adult survivors of emotional, physical or sexual abuse.
