My husband and I have been patients of Dr. Christine Bauer for over 6 years. My husband suffered for years with chronic back problems. He endured epidurals and strong medications, with little or no relief. A pain-management specialist he consulted recommended using acupuncture, as well.

We were then very lucky to find Dr. Bauer’s name on our insurer’s website. My husband has, thankfully, finally found relief from his pain with Dr. Bauer’s acupuncture treatments. I injured my leg in an unfortunate incident on the railroad over 3 years ago and suffered an acute, debilitating, and very painful injury. Since I normally accompany my husband to Dr. Bauer’s office, I asked her if she thought my pain, too, could be alleviated by her treatments. She responded in the affirmative, and I have been a very satisfied patient since then, as well.

When I first contacted Dr. Bauer I was on medication for psoriatic arthritis. I was still experiencing flares, my body ached and my knees would swell up to the point where they had to be drained several times. The medication helped some but not enough to justify that or the constant nausea and excessive weight loss that made me look and feel frail. I decided to try acupuncture as a complement to the medication, hoping it would also eliminate nausea.

From my first appointment Dr. Bauer had me keeping a food diary then suggested avoiding gluten and dairy. Not easy! But between the diet change and routine acupuncture visits my knees stopped swelling and within weeks I was feeling more like myself. I gradually stopped taking the medication. The nausea disappeared; I gained back the lost weight. No more swelling in my knees. I continue to routinely see Dr. Bauer to keep my inflammation and arthritis in check. The visits aren’t just about my arthritis or the acupuncture treatments. Every visit includes a consultation with recommendations to optimize my health and whatever issues crop up, like flares or allergies. Some I follow, some I choose not to. The important thing is that with Dr. Bauer I have a partner in managing my health. For someone with a chronic illness that is incredibly powerful!
